CINEMATOGRAPH SLUMP.
RETRENCHMENT IN AMERICA. VAKCOUVER. Jan. 8. The Los Angeles cinematograph picture business is being hard hit in the prevailing depression. Productions of new film? will be decreased to 30 per cent, of the 1920 output. The retrenchment programme includes the drastic reduction of salaries of "stars," and thousands of cinematograph actors will be thrown out of work. One of the principal causes is the alarming decrease in the attendance at cinematograph theatres throughout the country. The day of extravagance and wasteful production has passed, say leading producers.
