NORTHCOTE VALUATIONS
OBJECTION TO ASSESSMENTS. " LOW AND INEQUITABLE." ACTION BY BOROUGH COUNCIL. Objection to the new valuation of Northcote has been taken by the Borough Council. The valuation for the current year was considered at a meeting of that body on Tuesday evening, and after considerable discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr. C. A. Deuxberry, seconded by Mr. A. W. Smith, to lodge an objection in the Assessment Court against the revaluation as a whole on the grounds that the assessments were generally inadequately low, disclosed many inequalities, and displayed a lack of uniformity. The Mayor, Mr. A. E., Greenslade, pointed out that the decision was unique in rating procedure, though fully in conformity with the Act. It is intended, if the Assessment Court sustains the council's objections, to apply for revaluation in time to allow of £he striking of the next rates levied. Mr. C. A. Deuxberry was appointed to obtain data with the object of supporting the council's case before the Assessment Court.
