o WAR MEMORIAL CAMPAIGN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.} MOHRITtSVILLE. Wednesday. At a meeting of the Morrinsville War Memorial Committee, at which LieutenantColonel R. C. Allen, D.5.0., presided, it was reported that the sum of £1354 had been subscribed, or £650 less than the object aimed at. The chairman described the result as disappointing, and said that at least £250 more -was required before the proposed scheme—the erection of a 30ft. obelisk and the purchase of three acres o£ ground—could be gone on with. Mr. J. E. Leeson, the proposer of the j proiect, said there was no need to be j d-wn-hearted, and that for an initial effort the Organising Committee had done very well. It was resolved to endeavour j to raise further funds by holding an art I union and entertainments, and by selling I gifts of stock. It was decided to write to various monumental /nasons for prices and designs of an obelisk 30ft. high. \ Members of the Morrinsville. Town Board visited the waterworks, and in reporting to the boaid expressed satisfaction with the progress that -vv.is being made with the men at work. The foundation of the dam was being laid. The pipes bad been laid through three tunnels, and over four bridges, and had be'-n jointed for a considerable distance further. The construction of the p'pe line wm being rushed on. There was urgent need for more men, however. Considerable inconvenience is beins ex- ' perienced by farmers with oat crops in the Morrinsville district, owing to the shortage of binder twine. A prominent Morrinsville farmer said_ that there was an acute shortage of twine, and that ho had been unable to secure Mipplies in Morrinsville or Auckland. The position, ho added, was serious. . The revaluation of Morrinsville if undf-r wav Messrs. F. W. Wall is, Government valuer, and J. S. Reid, town clerk, being engaged in the work. While the revaluation "has been in progress 197 alterations m the ownership of properties have been noted. It is stated that an all-round m- • rc:>se of about 100 per cent, will be made in the value of Morrinsville property The new valuation will come into operation nn April 1 next. Morrinsville was last valued in 1913.
