■ -o DRUNKENNESS AND THEFT. 14 DAYS' HARD LABOUR. Charges of having been found drunk in Wellesley Street on Tuesday, and having stolen five knitted ties, five packets of powdered soap, and two reels of cotton were made against James Young, aged 46, who appeared before Mr. J. \V. Poynton, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. F.vidence was given that when the accused "was arrested the articles Mere found j in the lining of his coat. COMPLAINT AGAINST HI'SBAND. A c mplaint was entered liy the wife of Walter John Simpson that on January lb he used provoking and insult,;ij language, and complainant had in t, cau«e to believe ha would do her bodily harm. Mr. IT. I. Sinison, for complainant, said the defendant had been drinking heavily for sonie time and had reduced himself to a. low mental and physical state. The ease was adjourned until Friday. THEFT BY YOUNG BOY. The theft of a gold watch anj chain, rallied" at, £18 10s, was admitted by a lad 13 years of age. The boy said he went into a shop to buy an ice-cream, and saw the watch on a shelf. As no one was in the shop he took the watch, and sold it for 10s to a boy on the same evening. The probation officer said the boy had been behaving well, but was influenced by older boys, whom he refused to implicate. He was a support of his crippled father. The magistrate, admitted the boy to probation for three years.
