<■» GRANTS FOR SCHOOLS. The Auckland Education Board concluded its meeting yesterday. Mr. E. C. Banks occupied the chair. The bulk of the sitting was devoted to matters of routine. Complaint was made by the Awakeri School Committee as to the maimer in which the medical examination of the school had been carried out. It was stated that the inspector and a nurse had spent only half an hour at the school, on-y a smail percentage of the children being examined. The chairman said the board would discuss the matter after the medical inspector hid reported. 1 Mrs. F. E. Baume and Messrs. H. S. IW. King and G. W. Murray were appointed managers of the Elam School of Art. It was decided to ask the City Council to appoint a representative, in addition to the two representatives to be appointed by the Elam Trustees. Advice was received from the Minister for Education approving the establishment of a district high school at Dargaville. I The Education Department advised that I an additional grant of £575 had been made j for the erection of a manual training ! school at Onehunga, an additional grant 1 of £595 for a similar purpose at Avondale, a grant of £895 for tho erection of an additional room at St. Heliers school, , and another of £934 for the erection of a j school at Thornton, Whakatane. The supervisor of the manual and I technical branch reported that a grant of \ £7725. to provide for the erection of a I manual and technical school at Tau--1 marunui had been notified bv the department. This building will" include two \ science rooms for the secondary department. ■ On the recommendation of the super- | visor it was decided to take steps to open classes in woodwork and cookery in temporary premises at Huntly. I
