At aj meeting of the committee of the I Tauranga Athletic Club the programme for the sports meeting to be held on ; Easter Monday "was adopted, and the ' prize money waa nearly doubled in com- I parison with the previous meeting. The . prizes in the 100 yds., 440 yds., half-mile, j and mile races were fixed at £10 in each ' instance, and for the 220 yds. events the , prizes were increased to £8. The two | chopping events were raised to £8 each. Mr. E. C. Jarrett, Government poultry j instructor, delivered an address this week on poultry-keeping. There was a large attendance. During the next few daya, ' Mr. Jarrett will advise poultry-keepers, 1 and at the week-end he will proceed to Te Puke. After visiting other coastal dis- , tricts he will go to Katikati and Waihi. | Four pupils from the Tauranga District J High School won junior national scholarshins at the recent examination, and one, Edward V. Simpson, gained first place for . New Zealand. The Hon. C. J. Parr, i Minister for Education, has telegraphed congratulating the headmaster, Mr. W. I 11. C. Walker, and staff on the excellent results achieved. Among the visitors to Tauranga_are Mr. Albert Spencer, president of the Auckland Provincial Employers' Association, , and Mr. W. E. Anderson, assktant-secre- ! tary of the association, who are interviewing employers in connection with organisation matters. They wiil also visit ' Te Puke, Whakatane, and Opotiki. As the result of a public meeting held , at Mount Maunganui a request has been made to the Mount Maunganui Domain Board to construct two tennis courts at the mount. Subscriptions amounting to £20 10* have been received already toward the project. The board has appointed a committee to go into the matter and report.
