YEAR'S TOURIST TRAFFIC

PRE-WAR VOLUME PASSED. NO SLACK SEASON. The tourist traffic registered in Auckland during the year now closing has been very heavy, particularly during the winter months. Tho Government Tourist Inquiry Bureau in Customs Street handled no less than three or four times the amount of business during tho past winter than it did during the previous winter months, the amount of money freely spent on travelling being quite phenomenal. Messrs. Thomas Cook and Sons also_ report well-sustained business, bookings keeping up during the Mav to December period, which is customarily a slack one as regards travelling and sightseeing. On tho whole, bookings through the firm have been heavier this year than during tho di'osdcvous pre-war years.
