This matter was the subject of l" some consideration by the Prices Investigation Tribunal. When the Arbitration i Court fixed the amount of the bonus at os the Board of Trade aimost ' simultaneously agreed to the raising of . the price of coal, the increase being only s one shilling less than the amount asked ' for. , I In approving of the increase the Prices j k j Investigation Tribunal was guided by in--1 j formation supplied by coal dealers show- ' I i n S that they could not possibly make j | their business pay unless the rise in price ! | v.as sanctioned. Among the items in- i • eluded in the list of overhead charges , which previously had not been passed on i to the consumers was the increase in the railway freights, which came into operai tion two months ago. The tribunal de- • cided that an increase of 2s 9d a ton was , warranted. [ _ COAL FOR AUCKLAND. i 16,000 TONS BY FIVE SHIPS. Over 16,0p0 tons of coal reached Auckland towards the eud of last week from various coal ports. The shipments from Newcastle totalled 11.618, which were brought bv the colliers Wairuna (6000 tons], and "Hexham (5100 ions), and the barquentine Lindsto! (51E tons.) The Kurow brought 3000 tons from Port Kembla, and the Kamona 2010 tons from Westport. The coal brought by the Hexham was consigned to the New Zealand Railways, supplies for the Gas Company j and the sugar works being included in some of the other shipments. i
