Hugh Mahon, because of a seditious speech | in Melbourne, Mr. Foley was successful in defeating Mr. Mahon, who again offered I himself for election. j [As a result of action commenced by the ' Federal Prime Minister, Mr. W. M. i Hughes, Mr. H. Mahon, member for Kalj goorlie, and an ex-Minister, was expelled from the Federal House of Representa- : tives. The speech on which charges were ' levelled against him was made at an Irish ! demonstration at Richmond Park. Mr. j Mahon was reported to have applauded j the murder of police in Ireland, and to [ have referred to " this accursed Empire." f When asked by Mr. Hughes if he had "been correctly reported, he replied. The New Zealand teachers' cricket team, with a score of 545 runs (Worker 113), defeated the head office of the Education Department, with 196. Hargreaves took four wickets for 50 runs and Worker three , for 39. Queensland sugar crop. BRISBANE, Dec. 23. The Queensland sugar crop is estimated at 231.000 tons, compared with 142,775 tons for the pa-st season.
