Decern "ber 18, ! the High Commissioner says: — " The wool sa'es have closed. The at tendance was large throughout, but com petition was slow, and conditions hav( not improved since opening. Two days sales have been cancelled. The total offer ings were 54,093 bales (instead of 80,(XX bates), including 8903 bales of New Zea land good medium quality. New Zealanc wool realised about last sales' prices, b\i finer grades declined and coarse wai neglected. Average closing values were: —60's to 64's (Merino), Is lOd to 2s 7d pei lb. ; 50"s to 56's (halfbred), Is 5d to li lid per lb.; 48's (fine crossbred), Is 3d t< Is 5d per lb. ; 44's to 46's (medium cross breds), lid to Is 3d per. lb. ; 36's to 40' i |coarse crossbreds), lOd to Is per lb. Al prices are more or less nominal, as lesi than one-third of the total offering wai sold. " At yesterday's free sales 6000 bales o Australian were offered and met with good competition, practically all being sold at about 10 per cent, below the Government limit."
