RUBBER FOR THE MILLION.

WHAT THE BARNET GLASS CO.. LTD., IS DOING.

A HUGE BUSINESS.

The Auckland house of this important Company is located in Victoria StreetEast, facing the Central Hotel, and the Company itself is known throughout Australasia for its enterprise and for the character of its goods. Some idea of the extent of its operations may be gathered from the fact that, its works at Footscray, an industrial suburb of Melbourne, cover no less than seven acres and give employment to an army of operatives. At these famous works the raw rubber from Africa and South America is received and manufactured into the rubber goods for which the Barnet Glass Company has won so deservedly high a reputation. These goods include the tyres (known wherever tvres are used) as the " Boomerang" brand— so called because they get " there and back" ! But these are not the onlv tvres made by the Company, because it haf made a great name for its truck tvres, 6 °hd goods and which give anv amount of service. The Barnet Glass Proprietary hold two of the largest contracts in Australia for truck tyres and they also have a contract with the Government of Java for the supply of these articles. Other of their activities include the manufacture of motor tubes, motorcycle tyres and tubes, milking-machine rubbers and inflations, etc. They are also large manufacturers of waterproofs—coats, cycling coats and suits, waterproof sheetings, bathing caps and hats, garden and suction hose, conveyor and driving belting, engine packing and all kinds of rubber ware for domestic use.

The New Zealand headquarters of the Company are at Christ-church and there are branches at Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington. Dunedin and Timaru. In Australia the Barnet Glass Company enjoys the distinction of being motor-tyre makers to more than one State Governor and also to the Governor-General. Fifty years or thereabouts have elapsed since this big concern was founded in Australia, and it is to-day one of the largest rubber corporations south of the Line.
