WHAKATANE AFFAIRS.
[BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT ] WHAKATAXE. Friday. A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held this week, Mr. F. Hockly, MP, being present. An experimental farm was urged, with the idea of giving special attention to maize crops,'which have 'ieea deteriorating during the' last few seasons. Mr. Hockly supported the proposal. Ha suggested also that they should approach the education Department with a view to establishing a small farm in connection with the high school. It was deo~ed to ascertain the views of the farmers' union* in the county beiqre approaching the Agricultural and Education Department*. Speaking in regard to the Whakaiane branch line, Mr. Hockly assured the meet-. ing that the line would be pushed ahead as quickly as possible.
