SPIRITISM.
Sir, — the seventies I was living near Norwood, one of London's suburbs. Itwas then considered the centre for spiritualistic seances. There was a man frequently to be seen at the Crystal Palace conspicuous for his peculiar style ,of dress and wild expression of face and maimer. But he spoke well. I was very attracted to-his pretty little wife (then a bride). She begged me to visit her, which I did - occasionally, and found- she was gradually becoming a martyr to neuralgia. She said the noises and Tappings caused by the spirits were sending her mad. There were many others suffering in like manner and-;finally some" died and others were put "into lunatic asylums. ■ A convention of leading spiritualists from all parts- of the - world -was- held at! Norwood, and it 'was decided by them I to' Close the " seances altogether "for | a? * time, as they admitted they had ! opened the - door to evil spirits. They i said that evil, ( bad spirits were;' overwhelming in numbers. As regards de- j= parted human, beings Our Saviour said : " There is a -great gulf fixed, so that they ; •..which woald pass from hence to you cannot." And St. Paul said : " Now the ' spirit speaketh .expressly that in the latter < tiroes some shall depart from the faith, ? giving heed to seducing spirits and doc- • trines of devils speaking lies in hypocrisy." The - Old Testament utterly condemns spiritualism. - A Bible Stuoent. ' :
