CEQUESTS TO EDUCATION.
PROVISION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] CHKISTCETTJRCH. Monday. Two bequests in the way of scholarships were notified at to-day's meeting of the hoard of governors of Canterbury College. The first was a bequest of £1000 by the late Mr. Austin Henry Alabaster, of Wellington, for the purpose of a scholarship or scholarships in classical literature in memory of his father, the late Rov. Charles Alabaster, M.A., Lincoln College, Oxford, such scholarship to be known as the Charles and Austin Henry Alabaster Scholarship. The second bequest was under the will of the late Mr. Robert Triggs, formerly Public Trustee, who left substantial provision, though the total is not yet known, for the foundation of a scholarship or scholarships in technical education, tenable at Canterbury College, to be available for boys and girls under 14 years of age attending State primary schools. The will provides that until the sum in trust produces £200 clear per annum the scholarship is not to be awarded. The scholarships are to be known as the Robert Triggs Scholarship.
