NOTES AND COMMENTS. | 1 The new one-design 14-footer that is being | built in Auckland for the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe. is Bearing completion and is expected to be launched on December 5— Lord Jelliooe's birthday. More than usual interest is being taken in the one-design class this season, and should sufficient inducement offer arrangements will be made for a. launch to follow the boats around the course so as to give those interested ian opportunity of witnessing their doings. Before the season is very far advanced at least a dozen boate will be seen racing on the Waitemata. The keel yacht Waitangi, recently purchased in Wellington by a party of Auckland yachtsmen, is expected to leave for Auckland next week. Her crew—Messrs. T. M. Alexander, V. Peace, K. Draffin. and W. Alexander—will leave Auckland tomorrow for Wellington to sail the yacht up to this port. The aitangi is now undergoing overhaul at Wellington under the supervision of Mr. C. Harrison-Smith, of Auckland, who will also make the trip North in her Mr. W R. Wilson's keel yacht Ariki will °* winched to-morrow at Devonport. She will be equipped with her new English suit of. sails, this season, but owing to insufficient time for stretching them between now and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron ? first ~ harbour race on December 11 Ariki will not be rigged with her newsails until after the New Year. In addition to racing in the squadron this season the Ariki will be a competitor in the-North Sh ore Yacht , Club. Moana will also race Wl * h , ?, he ort h Shore club this season While getting under weigh at Matiatia on Sunday the 26-footer Awatere. which had taken part in the opening race the previous day. got beyond her skipper's control and drove her bowsprit through one of the laree glass windows in the main cabin of the launch Daisy, owned by Mr. E. J. Kelly. Ihe shattered glass flew in all directions but fortunately no one was injured.
