..TOWN BOARD. MEETING. [Bt TELEGRAPH. —owsr CORRESPONDENT.] MQRRINSVILLE. Thursday. At a meeting of the Morrinsville Town Board it was reported that no advice had been received from the Railway Department as to its intentions regarding the proposal to remove or enlarge the railway station. The clerk was instructed to take steps to arrange a poll at which the ratepayers will be required' to vote on the question'- of constituting r the town a borough. The commission which recently safe" and heard evidence regarding the proposal received no objections, and reported favourably on the matter. Consideration was given to the matter of enlarging the present town board offices owing to the present accommodation being entirely inadequate for the increased business. It was decided to obtain an estimate of the cost of increasing the size of the. offices. It was stated. that the time was not far distant when, the whole of the present building would be required for the business of the borough, and that the Library Committee, would have to consider the question of removing the library elsewhere. A special meeting of the Library Committee is being held, to go ; into the matter of enlarging the, library and widening its scope, the number of subscribers having increased from 27 to 160 during the past 15 months. The waterworks engineer reported that had commenced in earnest, and that the scheme was being pushed ahead with all speed. The PubHc Trust Office advised that the sum of £30,000 had been placed to the credit of the board The workmen employed at the waterworks applied for the bonus of 9s awarded by the Arbitration . Court. It was pointed out that the Award wages for casuaj labourers were Is 7id per hour, while the board paid 2s per hour, that the new bonus only applied to unionists, and that application for it bad to be made to the Arbitration Court, which. had discretionary powers in the matter of granting it. . -' '-.*•■ The price for building a worker's cottage, eight of which were required by the M.->rrinsville Town Board, was given as £935 by the lowest tenderer >vhen tenders were called for erecting them. In addition to this there was the nrice of the section, a quarter-aere being £50. and a half-acre £100. . The board has authority to spend £10,000, but when the quotations were submitted to the applicants, and the increased financial arrangements that wold be required were explained to them, thev decided not to go on with the project. „
