THAMES AFFAIRS.
COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. [ST TKtEGBAFH.—OWN COKRESPOWJENT.] THAMES, Friday. . At a meeting of the Thames County Council, Mr. "W. J. McCormick, chairman, presiding, a report was received to the effect that scows -were visiting Waikawau and removing eliingl& from the beach in opposition to the restrictions imposed by the council against such removal, owing to the encroachment of the sea on "the main road. Instructions were given to the foreman to investigate the matter and report. A'■ deputation from Wharepoa settlers waited on- the council, asking that the road from Omahu station, of a total length of one mile, be formed and metalled. The council decided to make an inspection of the road in company with members of the deputation, and en-, deavour to devise means oif dealing with the work asked for, which would cost £400. The county supervisor, reporting on the condition of bridges on the coast road, stated that they were in a dangerous condition. He recommended that a comprehensive scheme for their replacement should be dealt with promptly. He was instructed to furnish an estimate of the cost of this work for tha council consideration. The council decided to take steps to safeguard the road at the mouth of the Waikawau River, in consequence of the proposed erection of booms and timberdriving. At a meeting of the Hospital Board the proposed changes in representation on the board were received from the Health Department, the department having allotted the representation of various local bodies as follows:—Thames County, reduced from three to one; Thames Borough, increased from two to three; Ohinemuri County, reduced from four to two. Paeroa Borough remains at one, and Hauraki Plains County, which had no previous representation, is allowed three. The chairman. Mr. W. J. McCormick, pointed out that the matter had been taken out of their hands by tho department, and they had to accept the changes made, which would take place at the next election. Dr. Valintine advised the board that the X-ray plant would be inspected next week. The superintendent of district homes reported the number of inmates in the institution at date as nineteen males arid seven females, one male having died during the month, and one having been discharged.
