REPORT BY THE TRIBUNAL,
TRADING AT A LOSS. -
WORST PERIOD OF YEAR.
The Auckland Prices Investigation Tribunal considered a comprehensive report on the question of meat prices at its sitting yesterday. It covers every branch of the meat ( industry, from the price paid for stock in the saleyards, to the value of bi-products. According to this report butchers operating in the city and suburbs have been losing money on their retail meat business. The present is considered to be the most unfavourable period of the year-for butchers' so far as prices go, and the report will serve as a good basis for the tribunal to investigate the charges made for meat during other periods in the year. The tribunal will hold -a- sitting ai Rotorua on Monday,, for the purpose of taking evidence,* in. .connection with a number of complaints received* from this district in respect to local, meat prices. A report on the whole question is subsequently to' be forwarded to the Board of Trade.
