THE NEW WHAU BRIDGE.

QUESTION OF WIDTH. The question of the width of the proposed new Whau Bridge was referred to at a meeting of the Avondale Road Board on Wednesday evening. It was stated that a letter had been sent to the Minister for Public Works objecting to the proposed width of the bridge. The letter stated that at a conference of delegates from all the local bodies interested the opinion had been expressed that the width of the new structure should be 50ft., but that the Waitemata County Council, the controlling body, had had plans prepared for a 40ft. bridge. mentioned that a tally of the traffic over the present bridge had recently been taken by the County Council. It was decided that Avondale and New Lynn should jointly take a tally early in November, as it was considered the first tally was taken at a time of the year which hardly showed the normal extent of traffic.
