NO GAS FOR TEN DAYS.
LIMITED supply of COAL:
DELAYS ;IN SHIPMENTS. '
SMALL PORTION OF CARGOES.
The prospects of an immediate supply of coal for the Auckland Gas Company arenow not so bright as they were on nesday.
The only stocks now in eight are 1750 tons, which the Kanna is bringing from Westport, and 800 tons of Newcastle coal by the Katoa. The Kanna is now not due to sail until Monday, but the Katoa left Newcastle yesterday. Originally the company expected to get from 1500 to 2000 tons of coal froni this ship's cargo, and some disappointment was experienced when advice was received that the most it could expect from the total shipment of 3300 tons was 800 tons. The quantity in sight for the gas works is therefore only 2500 tons, and as the daily rate of consumption is 250 tons this will enable the works to be kept running for ten days only. If the Kanna leaves for Auckland on Monday she will not . arrive her until Thursday at the earliest, and it will be Thursday or Friday before the company will receive any coal from Newcastle. ■ Consequently the gas supply cannot be resumed for at least another ten days. * The Ihumata has been loading 1700 tons of Newcastle coal for Auckland, but the company has no guarantee that it will get any supplies from this ship. It hopes, on the other hand, to receive a portion of the 3j300 tons the Kaiwarra is loading at Newcastle, but up to the present it has not had any advice on the subject.
