PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
PREACHERS FROM SCOTLAND.
THIRTY-THREE MEN ENGAGED.
As a result of the mission of the Rev. Dr. Gibb to Scotland 13 ministers and 20 home missionaries have been secured for the New Zealand , Presbyterian Church. Dr. Gibb, who returned by the Niagara yesterday,. stated that he had been sent to Scotland to secure 20 ministers and 20 home missionaries, and he bad obtained the numbers mentioned with great difficulty. The Presbyterian Church, in common with other churches in Britain, vas suffering from a serious shortage of ministers owing to the war, and there was no surplus to draw on. He had, made his appeal by addressing assemblies and colleges, by using religious journals and by private ways. Most of the ministers who had agreed to come to New Zealand would probably go to vacant charges, while the home missionaries would be used to extend the influence of the Church in the back blocks. It. was intended that several should go to the Far North, where rren were urgently wanted. The men, who were all young, would be in the Dominion within six months.
