AMERICANS AND CANADA.
" PEACEFUL PENETRATION."
Among the passengers who arrived by the Niagara from Canada yesterday, were Mr. J. J. ard Mrs. Knight. Mr. Knight, who is chairman of directors of the Brisbane Newspaper Company, and editor-in-chief of the Brisbane Courier and Associated Journals, has been absent from Australia since last June touring Canada and America, and was one of the Imperial Press Delegation. He speaks in most eulogistic terms of the warmth of the Canadian people's welcome, and of i the completeness of the transport and other arrangements made for the comfort of the delegation. He also holds strong views concerning what he describes as "the peaceful penetration " of Canada by America. Canada is being surely and rapidly Americanised, he says, through Wall Street, and this to his mind constitutes not only a danger but a positive menace. No more loyal or devoted people can be found— people who honour the flag and reverence the Kingthan the Canadians, but unfortunately they fail to realise where the influx of American capital is trending, though it is possible that ere long the true significance of American " enterprise " may dawn on them.
