RESUMPTION OF WORK. *j ON EMPLOYEES' TERMS. CONFERENCE ARRANGED. .''•■. • [BT TEtEGBAPH. —PBESS ASSOCIATION.] ~.A WELLINGTON. Tuesday. The Wellington wharf trouble has ended and the watersiders resumed work at 1 p.m. to-day. After" a number of men had been secured for the Calm, there was a general call for six- boats simultaneously. There 'was a'ready response, abundance of labour offering. There were no scenes, everything being quiet and orderly. , There was a mild cheer when the call for labour, was general, Tlie Waterside Workers' Union, after four hours' deliberation this morning, gave their executive a free hand in arranging a settlement, which was agreed to on the basis.of the terms submitted by the Employers' Federation, with the inclusion of a clause, on the men's behalf, that there shall be ho victimisation. The employers' terms were fourfold, as follows: — • (1) The vessels Mahana, Komata (coal), Poherua, Baden Powell (coal), and Calm to commence discharge. All these vessels to be put up for labour together. (2) ' The union to agree to man the Calm on the basis in respect to other vessels of man for man up to a maximum of 20. The Calm then to take her chance of further available labour, in . common with other vessels—' on account of a
probable shortage. (3) Men engaged on ships other than the Calm to be engaged only on the understanding that the Calm receives 20 men.
(4) When all ships are maimed, a conference to be held between representatives' of the two sides, with a view to discussing present methods of wharf labour. It is understood, that the subject to be discussed at the conference which has been arranged will relate to the right of the men to strike and the right of the employers to refrain from engaging labour on the wharves generally when a dispute occurs regarding -any particular ship.
