Sir Joseph and Lady Ward have left th© Savoy Hotel, where they spent some; weeks on arrival in London, and they now have i flat at Harewood House, Hanover Square. Sir Joseph is loosing better tha>u wnea he .-lanoteu, and >U aoout a, month's time he will take trip to Holland and Spain, accompanied by Lady Ward, and in all prooabhity by their youngest son, who .has completed his schooling, Mr. p. Selig, of Christcburch, has been fortunate in securing a return passage to New Zealand by the Orient liner, Ueterley, due to sail from London on September 18. He returned to London jesterday from Canada, and he is hoping to see something* of Cornwall— of Penzance, which is the birth-place of his parents. A short trip to (Scotland may also be possible. Mr. H. Horton, of Auckland, has returned to England fronT Canada. Since the conclusion of the Lambeth Conference the Anglican Bishop of Auckland has been taking rest in Staffordshire. Next weak he intends to visit France with his son, Mr. L. C. L. Averill, who is studying medicine at Edinburgh, and afterwards he will go to Scotland, He will probably be in London in Octo* ber for a short time, prior to leaving "for New Zealand. Bishop Averill states that he is sorry, that so tar his efforts to get clergy for his diocese have not been go successful, as be hoped. In addition to the Rev. G. G. Bell, who is going out to St. Sepulchre's, in October, there is a young man who has recently been ordained a«rLichfieia Cathedral. The Anglican Bishop of Christchurch has been visiting Winchester and Bury St, Edmunds since the Lambeth Conference completed its deliberations. At the beginning of this week he went over to Franc® for a quiet rest, accompanied by Miss Julius, and he wilt remain there until the end of this month. . " . Mr. and Mrs. R. A. La/dlaw, of Auckland, have probably accomplished a unique performance by completing their first visit to England by aeroplane,' With their young son they landed at Naples, and travelled through Italy, Switzerland and France. While in France, Mr. Laidlaw took the opportunity of visiting his brother's grave at Albert. A month, was 'spent' on the Continent. Over and above the novelty of travelling by air from Paris to London, Mr. Laidlaw hoped to escape the rough passage by sea, They came by a small 'plane carrying only themselves and the pilot, but they found on this occasion the air was as rough as the "sea. - ■ Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stewart, of Auckland, have taken a house at Wanstead, and are gradually settling down to their three years' sojourn in England.- They are finding the cost of living here considerably higher than in New Zealand, and at present schooling for their children is a matter needing solution. During his stay Mr. Stewart hopes to be ablest© keep up his interest in territorial affairs. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Laird, of Auckland, qre leaving for New York at the beginning of September, and thoy expect to he in New Zealand some time in November. Mr. A. A. Storm, from the Public Truft Office, Am-k'and, ppent a few days in London before leaving for Sweden, After about a month in Scandinavia be will reach England in time to join the Matagnfna. from Liverpool, on October 8, for Montreal. Mr. S. N, Ziman. a former New Zealand Rhodes scholar, has arrived in London from the Dominion, on leave from the Indian Civil Service, He will be in this country until November, when it will b» time to leivp for India. Mr. Thomas D. Reid, of Auckland, is going over to Jersey durinsr the summer show weak. With Mrs. Reid. h<* will later nay a visit to Belgium and France, and then they will go to Scotland and Ireland to see relatives. They are going back to New Zealand via Sues on December IS.
