INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
DECLINE IN DIPHTHERIA. ■ NO CASES OF MEASLES. The total number of cases of infectious diseases occuring within the Auckland health district during September, as notified to the district health officer, was 252, compared with 305 in August. Of last month's total, pneumonia and influ-enza-pneumonia were responsible for 66 cases, there being 32 of the former and 34 of the latter complaint, compared with 37 and 34 respectively in the preceding month. 3 There were 31 cases of scarlet fever last month or four less than in August. The number of cases in the city and suburbs was 23, the remaining eight being in country districts. Diphtheria showed a further decline, there being 27 cases, which is the lowest monthy total recorded during the past twelve' months. There were 30 cases in August and 52 in July. Of last month's cases, seven were in the city and 20 in the country. The number of enteric fever cases in September was five,' which is the lowest for any month in the present year. Two cases were in the city and suburbs, and three in the country.' There were' no cases of measles, but ten cases of chicken, pox were notified; one in the city, and nine in the country, compared with seven cases in August. Twenty-nine cases of tuberculosis were registered, thirteen being in the city, six in the suburbs, and ten.: in the country, this is an increase on the preceding month's' total of 10. Three cases of cerebrospinal meningitis, and one of lethargic encephalitis were included in last month's list.
