MISSING BARQUENTINE. NO TRACE OF AMELIA J. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Becd. 12.30 a.m.) ' SYDNEY. Oct. 4. The barquentine Southern Cross has been posted as a total loss. The fate of the crew remains unsolved. The steamer Melbourne unsuccessfully continued the search for the missinz schooner Amelia J. over the week-end. The Southern Cross was' en route to Hobart with a cargo of benzine. She carried a crew of 12. Wreckage was found off King Island, in the Bass Strait and it is surmised that an explosion occurred aboard.
