GERMAN SWINDLER FOILED
NOTES FOR BALTIC STATES. HIGH OFFICIALS INVOLVED. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Oct. 3. The Berlin correspondent of the Daily Chronicle states that an extraordinary swindle was spoilt by the port authorities at Stralsung and Warneraunde. Officials boarded a motor-yacht which called at Warnemunde, on account of an accident to the machinery, and discovered cases containing notes of the nominal value of £37.500.000 in marks, which were printed by Bermondt. the Russo-German adventurer in the Baltic States, but were not issued, owing to the failure of Bcrmoridt's plans.
The notes were, being sent to the Baltic States for circulation. The chief plotters. Baumann and his nephew, were both arrested. Letters seized mention numerous high officials a* accomplices.
