Mr. Harold Caro, of Caro Bros., Ltd. Auckland, arrived in London in July' after an extensive business tour of the East. _ He intends making a three months' stay in England before returning to New Zealand via America.
Mr. E. A. Shrimpton, chief telegraph* engineer, has arrived in London. He intends to return to New Zealand by way of Canada and America, reaching "Wellington toward the middle of December.
Captain J. D. S. Phillips, assistantmarine superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company at Sydney, left for Sydne» by the Tahiti on Saturdav. Captain Phillips brought the Katoa to Auckland in place of Captain Robilliard, who has been appointed pilot at Melbourne
Major E. H. Macdonald, son of Mrs. A. V. Macdonald, of Remuera, has been created an officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services in the Afghan campaign. Major Macdonald who formerly was an officer in the 3rd' Auckland, Regiment, went to England and joined the Imperial Army as a second lieutenant in the South Lancashire Regiment early in 1914. He was then drafted to India, and during the war was mentioned in despatches on three occasions. He is at present stationed at . Peshawar, North-west India. > '
