LABOUR FOR HOUSING.
RAILWAYMEN'S PROPOSAL.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPOBTER.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday. An offer by a number of railwaymen at Maiton to provide labour for house-build-inp if tne Government would provide the material was referred to the Prime Minister by Mr. W. S. Glenn (Rangitikei). He said he had been at a meeting of the men on Sunday, when the shortage of aocommodation for railwaymen was discussed. They said they did not consider there should be any objection to their proposal by the Labour unions, for there were no carpenters there. They would like an opinion from the Prime Minister on the matter.
Mr. Massey said he -would be very glad to confer with the General Manager of Railways, to see if anything could be done to give effect to the suggestion. He could see no objection personally to the proposal. He could not see that anyone could object to a man helping to build the house in'which he and his family were to live.
