MISSIONER WELCOMED.

THE REV. S. F. COLLIES.

A cordial welcome was tendered to the Rev. S. F. Collier, Mrs. Collier, and the Rev. D. Collier last evening at the Pitt Street Methodist Church, the building being crowded. The Revs. Percy Knight and 0. H. Laws conducted a brief service of prayer and hymns, which was followed by an address of welcome by the Mayor, Mr, J. H. Gunson. Special reference was made by Ms. Gunsoa to the distinguished service rendered to the Methodiifc Church by the Rev. Collier as the superintendent of the Manchester Central Mission, with which he had been associated for over 35 years. The social | and philanthropic activities of the misdon had raised it to a very high place in the records of mission work, and nad resulted in inestimable benefit to the great city in which it had been carried on. In addition to welcoming Mr. Collier, Auckland had also the honour of welcoming his son, the Rev. D. Collier, wheats chaplain to the forces, had been assodated with . New Zealand soldiers en Gallipoli and in Egypt- On. behalf of the * citizens he accorded to both of them, and to Mrs. Collier, & very hearty welcome to Auckland and to New Zealand, wishing the party a pleasurable trip. And interesting address on the work of the Manchester Mission was delivered by the Eev. S. F. Collier, who gave a graphic account of the way in which lie waifs and 6trays of a great city bad been brought in off the streets to the influence of the Church. The history of the mission had been one of steady growth and achievement, and one of in- * estimable benefit in the eolviag of many of the great social problems with wMch all cities of. the older world were confronted.
