MINERS' PENSIONS.
QUESTION OF AN INCREASE. " The miners' phthisis pension was increased last year, and any further increase will depend entirely on the financial position of the Dominion," stated Sir William Herries in a "printed replv to the question by Mr. H- Poland (Ohine"muri), as to whether he considered £1 10s per week reasonable or adequate compensation for a man with a wife and children dependent on him, who became totally incapacitated for work through miners' complaint; and if not, whether he intended to amend the law to provUe adequate compensation? ' Replying to a protest that his answer was unsatisfactory, the Minister for Pensions said that he would take into con sideration tho question of increasing the miners' pensions when the question of. increasing the old age and other pension* came under review this session.
