GERMAN CHANGES HIS NAME.

FINE OF £5 IMPOSED.

A German named Louis Max* Dytuer appeared before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, on a charge of having changed his name since December 22, 1814, he being an umiaturalifcd enemy alien.

' Constable Beddick, of Birkenhead, stated that when he interviewed Dynzer recently regarding his failure to notify a change of address the defendant informed him that lie had been using the name Denniston in order to keep his employment. Ho asked witness to communicate •with him under his assumed name.

Dynzer admitted that he was Germanborn, and that he had been interned for about four years. He believed he would now lose his employment, and would be unable to get new work: ' The magistrate said he was satisfied the offence had been deliberate. A fino of £5 was imposed, in default one month's imprisonment.

ACCIDENT IN "SAFETY ZONE."

A motor-lorry mishap within th* tramway passengers' safety xone at the top of Symondj Street resulted in Benjamin Johnstone being . charged with driving within the tone.

Sub-Inspector Wohlmann stated that at ' 5.30 p.m. on May 22 a woman was stand. ' ing within the tone. She saw the waggon ' approaching, • but did not move,- because I she felt safe within the zone. 'The vehicle, ; howover, continued in its course, and she was knocked down, sustaining injuries to hor arm. The driver immediately stopped, three wheels of the lorry being within the zone area.

The defendant, who pleaded that the vehicle skidded when' he applied -the brakes, was ordered to pay 17s dbsts.

OFFENCES BY MOTORISTS. Percy Jones pleaded not guilty to driving a motorcar on the footpath' in Mahai Road, Grey Lynn. . Evidence was given that tho roadway was under formation, the metal being off. The bottom, however, was firm and motor-cars frequently used it. The defendant travelled along the footpath ,at about ten mile's an hour. Jones said he was surprised -when be was informed ho had been on the footpath. He had selected what appoarod to li'm to h* tho best part of the road. Defendant was ordered to pay £1 13s costs. • Henry Johnson was fined £3 and costs for driving a motor-car at an excessive speed past a stationary tramcar in Queen Street. Passengers were alighting from the tramcar at the time. Oliver llrett was ordered to pay 9s costs for leaving a motor-car unattended in High Street, and I Alfred Ellis was fined 10» and lis costs I for driving a car in Ponsonby'Road alter sunset without a rear light.
