They were also of opinion that the public schools had been prematurely opened, and should again he closed, as one of the measures towards bringing about- an abatement of the epidemic. The Mayor, in reply, said the necessary steps would be taken in the direction desired by the deputation with a view to combating the spread of the epidemic, which was certainly assuming serious proportions.
