PAYMENT OF NATIVE RATES.
ACTION BY LOCAL BODIES. [DY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.) TAJRANGA. Monday. At a meeting of the Tauranga County Council a circular letter was read from the • Bay of Islands County Council, asking support of the following resolution:—" That tho Prime Minister he urged to have introduced at tho coming session legislation cither: (a) Giving local bodies lull power to enforce payment of rates by Maoris; or (b) providing for payment of native rates by the General Government. The council was also asked if it would send a delegate 40 a conference to ,be held in Auckland at an early date, to decide upon some concerted action. The council unanjmously decided to support tho resolution, and appointed the chai:-man as its delegate to attend tie conferen'.*.
