WAGES IN BRITAIN.
INCREASES FOR RAILWAYMEN ORIGINAL CLAIM REDUCED. Australian and N.Z. Cable- Association. (Reed. 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, Juno 4. The railwayman's award grants increases ranging from 2s to 8s 6d a week. Tho Board recognises that much of their work requires high efficiency, but an advance of one pound a week, which was demanded, would involve an increase of railway charges by 110 per cent, abovo rates before the war.
GAS WORKERS' DEMANDS. GREAT STRIKE IMMINENT. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Juno 4. Tho entire country is threatened with a gasworkcrs' strike [or higher wages. A ballot overwhelmingly favoured a stoppage on June 26.
