ACCEPTANCES FOR FIRST DAY.

The acceptances received in connection with events set down for decision on the opening day of tho Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting on Thursday next are all round of a satisfactory character; and the ■prospects of the gathering teaching a standard up to the most noteworthy of its predecessors can bo regarded as bright. The Jervois Handicap, having drawn tho largo acceptance of, 46, the A.R.C Committee decided to ron that event in two divisions, the first ranking as the opening event, and the second division as tho third in order on the card. Lupenno puded up well after long, work at a sound pace. General Stephen defeated Gluetanus 07er a circuit in 2m 2 2-ss. Ohinewairua sprinted well, while Parisian Diamond. Asterina, Tobasco, Llansar.nor, Mountain Gold, North Loburn and Utu were others indulging in useful tasks. On the grass Ngata and Ruddy hit out freely, also King Abbey. Mangamahoe pv some vim into a round, Monocrat deviated another hack in a sprint, Trespass and Queen Abbey each galloped six fur'ongs separately, Omahu and Yankee Jack were not looking for time, while Sir 3010 and Lochella performed_ sound pace Work. The most interesting bout over fences was that provided by Cynic, Lord Nagar and Pendoon over five fences on the outside of the course proper.
