BATHER IN DRESS SUIT.
AN EARLY MORNING SWIM. INCIDENT IN CHRISTCEURCH. [by TELEGRAPH. —OWN COREF.SFOXDF-VT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. During the small hours of this morning two men, wearing evening dress, were walking along High Street. They had apparently been attending some convivial or social gathering, as both were in high spirits. As they approached the large cold water tank, which was once a part of tho city's fire-fighting scheme, the;-' had a friendly argument about the merits of early morning bathing. One of the •men offered to bet the other a. shilling that he would, not dive in. The words had hardly been k uttered before the challenge was taken up and his companion waa " over the top" and into the water with a splash.
Having once got in the next question was how to get cut, and. this turned out to be a much more difficult proposition than the bather had anticipated. In fact if it had not been for the arrival of some very interested spectators the comedy might have become a tragedy. It was a very cold and wet figure in evening suit that came out of the tank.
