TIMBER FOR SCHOOLS.
APPEAL TO THE MINISTER. A SYMPATHETIC REPLY. The difficulties experienced by the Board of Education in securing building material for the erection of new schools were recently brought to the attention of the Minister for Education, with a request that, if necessary, he should introduce legislation giving education boards first call on building materials for schools.
In a reply received yesterday by the board, Mr. Parr expressed fullest sympathy in tho matter, and agreed that if at all possible efforts should be made to ensure that education boards receive preference in respect to building materials for schools. He did not yet know whether it was possible to take the necessary action under the Board of Trade regulations, or whether legislation were required, but he was going into the matter very carefully,'both with the Board of Trade and with his colleagues in the Cabinet, and hoped to arrive at some solution of the problem.
