OBITUARY.

CAPTAIN E. J. THOMAS. HOUSE MANAGER OF HOSPITAL. Captain Ebenezer J. Gliomas, who ras held the position of house manager of the Auckland Hospital for the last eight year? died last evening at the age of 62. Captain Thomas, who was born in Wales, joined the Royal Navy in his youth, and was appointed to the paymaster's staff. Be was subsequently ap pointed assistant-paymaster on H.M.N. Wolverine, which was stationed at Sydney, Australia. Captain Thomas then oh tained a secretarial position under th* New South Wales Government and, during the South African War, was given 'the rank of captain in the Imperial Forces. In this capacity ho paid off all the Australian troopers who returned :-om Africa. He tuen came to New Zealand, and held a position in the Treasury De nartment at Wellington, which he left to take up the position of accountant in the Auckland city engineer's office. In 1911. Captain Thomas was appointed house manager of the Auckland Hospital, which position he occupied until the time of hi? death. Re took a keen interest in the Navy League, of which he was president throughout the war period, and was also a member of the committee of manage ! incut of the Sailors' Home. He was a I popular member of the Auckland Bowling Club. Captain Thomas leaves a widow and a married daugnter, Mrs. Climie, of Christchurch. MRS. F. G. EWINGTON .An old resident of Devonport. Mr*. Mary Catherine Ewington, wife of Mr. F. G. Ewington, died yesterday morning at her residence, Cheltenham B&ach Road., Devonport, at the age of 74. Mrs. Ewington, wro has resided in the city since her mumagt 50 years ag- , was the mother c? a large family, all of whom are now married. She was a member of th.9 Ladia*' Sewing Guild, Holy Trinity Church. Bevouport, for many years. The interment will be private.
