[BT TJWC&APH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] , TE AROHA. Friday. The National Bank- has decided to open a branch here, with Mr. p. G. Speddirig a* manager. .Temporary offices have been secured. It is expected that the branch will open for business shortly. The Salvation Army baa decided to commence operations here. Captain Shereon, lately at Tauranga, will take charge, Barracks are likely to be built at an early date.
A controversy is in progress oyer a proposal by the jockey club to erect two dozen loose-boxes on a section near the business area. The objectors contend that the Borough Council should not grant a, building ( permit. The council, however, bae no power to decline, a the buildings • will be thoroughly sanitary and conform to the by-laws.
