The matter was referred to the Public Services Committee . The Auckland Tramwaymen's Union wrote asking that the license fees paid yearly by motcrmen and conductors be remitted. It was decideS to charge bo fees in future, the men concerned now being employees of the douncil. A petition signed by a. number of tram-* way employees asked that a special early morning car from Onehunga to Epsom be provided. The general manager reported that of the 35 men who had signed the petition four could not be said to reside m Onehunga, that of the remaining 31 only one-half on an average would tie working in the morning, and of these one-half again were already provided for by the existing service, so that actually only an average of eight men were concerned each morning. It was, therefore, impracticable to arrange for a car as suggested. It was decided to reply accordingly.
