HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.
THE CAMBRIDGE SCHEME.
ESTIMATED COST £50,000.
[BX TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CAMBRIDGE, Saturday.
A meeting of the Provisional Committee of tho Cambridge Hydro-Electric Power Board was held last evening. Mr. W. P. Gauvain, consulting engineer to the board, submitted a report of his preliminary investigation. He estimated that about 75 miles of line would be required for the area, and that a loan of £50,000 would be necessary to carry the scheme through its first stages. The engineer supplied details of the charges which, he considered, would be necessary to make the scheme financially successful. Disappointment was expressed by members that the Public Works Department had not announced its scale of charges to Power Boards, with the result that the boards were unable to state definitely what the charges to consumers would be.
