CHRISTMAS MANIFESTATION.

CHEER FOR THE SICK AND AGED

The innAtes of Auckland's various homes and hospitals will not go unremembered at a time when goodwill and rejoicing are general, and by Christmas fare and gift? will be reminded of the day. At the General Hospital, the Auckland Mental Hospital, the Cost-ley Home, and Alexandra Home, there will be a Christmas dinner, followed at the General Hospital by the distribution of sweets and tobacco. The little patients at the Children's Hos pital will spend as happy a day as possible in the circumstances. A generous response has been made to the appeal for the. Christmas toy fund, and there will be a present to gladden the heart of 'every child. Those who are abl e to be up will spend Christmas Day and Boxing Day in their own homes ; for the others, the day will be made as bright as possible. The customary visit of inspection will«be paid to the General Hospital, Costley Home, and Alexandra Home by the chairman and members of the Hospital Board to-morrow afternoon.

The Red Cross and Womens' Patriotic Societies have made arrangements fur generous Christmas cheer for the sick and wounded soldiers. At the Military Hospital the Red Cross is providing poultry, dessert, and sweets for a dinner for 92 men, and the Women's Patriotic Leaaue and War Relief Association will make each man a gift. The Red Cross is supplying tobacco and sweets for 15 returned men at the Mental Hospital. A special Christmas dinner and gifts will also bo provided for the men at Narrow Neck Convalescent Camp, wher there are about sixty patients.
