BOY AND GIRL MARRIAGE.
FALSE DECLARATION OF -AGE. SENTENCE IF CALLED UPON. Sentence in the ease of Edgar George Brown (Mr. Hall Skelton), who had pleaded guilty in the Police Court t<s making a false declaration regarding his own age and that of a girl of 15"years" in order to obtain a marriage certificate, was pronounced by Mr. Justice Cooper at the Supreme Court yesterday morning. The prisoner, who is "only 17 years of age, stated in the lower Court that he had enlisted with the Australian Forces at the age of 13 years, and served as a bugler. He was wounded and discharged, and re-enlisted with the New Zeafand Forces, but did not reach: the front. He was employed as an orderly in military hospitals at Trenthara and "Auckland. The Judge said he had decided to order Brown to come up for sentence when ; called upon, the understanding being that he would not be called upon if he pro- ! ceeded to Sydney, where his father lives, within two months, and remained out of New Zealand and away from his wife for three years'. Further conditions were that Brown should remain under the control of the probation-officer until his departure, and that "he should pay £2 12s, costs of the prosecution.
