BOROUGH COUNCILS.
MOUNT EDEN. The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. C. Hud- ■ sou, presided, and there were also present: Messrs. W. Woolley, A. M. Bryden, I. Smith, T. McNab, G L. Taylor, W. 1. Hammill, I. M. Melville, and E. H. Potter. A petition was received from several ratepayers, 'omplaining of the condition of Mount Eden Road, between Shaddock Street and the railway bridge, and. asking that it be cleaned and watered. The council instructed the engineer to carry out the request as far as possible, and decided to inform the petitioners that the formation of the road in permanent material was being considered. In accordance with a request from the headmaster of the Mount Eden school the council agreed to alter the hours of admission to the baths to suit the new timetable. The Potter's Park Committee recommended that a sum be included in the proposed reading loan for the provision of two asphalt tennis courts at the rear ot Mr. Potter's dwelling. Mr. Taylor suggested that three courts be laid down, and the council decided accordingly. The drawing up of regulations for the management of, the courts was referred to the committee to report. Permission to open the local picture theatre on' Christmas Day was given on condition that the programme be submitted to the Mayor for approval. It was decided to tar and sand the footpaths in the following roads, and in the order stated Esplanade Road, Mary, Edwin, and Stewart Streets, Ew- ! ington Avenue, Milton Road, Queen's Avenue, Marsden Avenue, Woodside Road Fairview Road, Prospect Terrace, Belle Vue Road, King's View Road, Gordon Road, Henley Road, Grange Road, King's Avenue. A request from the Auckland Railways League for an expression of opinion on the question of placing public works under 1 the control of a non-political board was " received." Several tenders were received for the proposed sewer ..works in Croydon Road, and the Streets Committee was instructed to visit the ground and to deal with them. MOUNT ALBERT. The Mount Albert Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. T. B. Clay, presided, and there were also present Messrs. C. H. Page, P. C. Ansell, A M. Wilson, E. S. Inwood, F. J. H. Harrison, H. A. Miles, J. Vickerstaff, and J Clark. The Mount Albert Ratepayers' Association wrote asking what progress had been made with the proposed Kingsland overbridge. The Mayor stated that the council was negotiating with the Railway Department, but so far no reply had been received. A proposal made by the St. Enoch's Tennis Club that the council form public tennis courts on the Borough Reserve was discussed at some length. It was decided to recommend the Domain Board to lease ground for this purpose at a nominal fee, on condition that the club supplies labour for the laying out of the courts. It was decided to tar and sand the New North Road from Argyle Street to the Kingsland Post Office at an estimated cost of £408. The foreman of works was authorised to complete the laying of a tin water-main in Malvern Road.
