ESCAPE OF EXPRESS.
TRAIN TAKES WRONG POINTS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE KUITI. Friday. The passengers by the Main Trunk train from Wellington to Auckland experienced small measure of excitement at the Te Kmti station in the early hours of this morning. The train rattled down the hill leading to the station, and slowing up near the platform took the wrong points, and ran on to an outside loop to the second line from the platform. The passengers had to cross the line to reach the platform A goods train coming in the other direction was waiting just outside the station at the opposite end on the line which the express took but was too far away for there to have been much risk of a collision. Officials state that the points were all riglit and the signals were correct. Thev cannot acco.unt for the mishap. The train, according to a passenger's ™3' was coming in at a slower pace than usual, otherwise the tra-n would almost certainly have left the rails, and a serious accident might have occurred Departmental officials are" arriving tonight to enquire into the causes of the accident. No damage was done to the express, which was delayed for forty minutes,
