No doubt ! such 3D event would draw good entries, but an age limit must be made. At Whangarei the regatta crews are well under way. Mr. Alan Jack is acting as coach, being assisted by + he club captain. The club intends to compete at all regattas in the Auckland Province this ' season. With the object of raising funds ' for a new shed and plant, a series of - harbour excursions have been arranged. ' Two have already been held, and returned ; a profit that has infused much enthusiasm ■ into the officials. The official opening "At Home" and trial fours of the Waitemata Boating ; Club will be held next Saturday. A set , of trophies for the trial fours have been , presented by Mr. W. G. Smith, vicecommodore, and one of the founders of the club. Ever since the Whangarei Regatta wa» instituted several years ago, it has always been a moat popular event with the , Auckland aquatic community. The j Northern people spare no efforts to make it the People's Day of the year. Th» I sum of £153 has been allotted in prizemoney, £75 going to the rowing events, £50 to the launch races, and £29 to yachting. Everything points to tho rowing events attracting large entries and providing very keen racing. Ail races will be rowed under the rules of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association and "the Auckland Rowing Association. *> Entries for all races close with Mr. Buckler, secretary of tho Auckland Rowing Association, on December 22- Special excursion steamers will run from Auckland. An energetic committee, with Mr. W. N. Jack as secretary, is doing all in its power for the success of the regatta. After the regatta a smoke concert will be held in Whangarei. at which all coin- ■ petitors and club members will be tha guests of the association. — „
