Dec. 3. i General Sir John Monash, in the Sunday Times, describes the Australian victory at Hamel in July, 1918, as the first offensive operation by any of the Allies since the autumn !of 1917. It marked the termination !of the purely defensive attitude on i the British front. It incited examination in many quarters into the possibilities of offensive action on similar lines, a changed attitude of mind which bore a rich harvest a few weeks later.
