REQUISITION OF. BUTTER.
EXTENSION OPPOSED. FEELING IN THE WAIKATO. [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Tuesday. The question of the Government again requisitioning dairy produce during the coming season was discussed at a meeting of the South Auckland Dairy Association yesterday. Mr. W. Goodfellow, general manager of the New Zealand Dairy Company, said ha had just returned from Wellington, where'he had conferred with various people on the matter, and had found a geneial impression among exporters that it was the intention of the Government to again take over the dairy output. Mr. Goodfellow thought that as the Imperial Government had a large quantity of cheese on hand the Government would not worry too much about this commodity, but he would certainly not agree to hand ovei the butter to the Government. In future, he thought, the butter producers shou'd take up a very definite stand in the matter, and that a meeting should be convened as early as possible with the object of taking some combined j action. The companies should go ahead and arrange their credits and make all other necessary trade arrangements for open market sales. The meeting was unanimous in the view that any attempt at Government purchase should be combated, and it was decided to ask the National Dairy Association to call a meeting of dairy representatives to further discuss the matter.
