THE DILWORTH FARM.

DISPOSAL OF PART OF AREA. PEDIGREE STOCK SOLD. RECORD PRICES OBTAINED. The Dilworth Trust Board this week disposed 'of some 60 acres of the wellknown Dilworth Farm, at Papatoetoe, in a subdivision sale, conducted by Messrs. Dalgety and Company. The property comprises 316 acres, about 200 acres of which, in nine small sections, was offered for sale. There was a very large attendance, and although only three of the sections reached the reserve price, numerous inquiries were made regarding the remainder of the area offered. The Trust Board acquired this property some years ago, with the object of maintaining upon it a school of agricu.ture, in accordance with the terms oi the will of the late Mr. James Dilworth. Suitable buildings were erected, and for several years the board maintained and instructed pupils drafted from the institute at Epsom. The number of boys with farming inclinations proved small, however; the board found the expense of running the school too great to justify its continuance, and the institution was closed at the beginning of this year. The property was offered to the Government for the purpose of founding a chair in agriculture at the Auckland University College, a scheme supported by the Auckland Education Board, but the Government declined to entertain the proposal. Retention of 116 Acres. The idea of establishing a school at some future date has not been abandoned, however, and the board has reserved for future possibilities that portion of the land occupied by the school buddings, and about 116 acres, which it proposes to lease for a term of years with the homestead. The following prices were recorded at the sale ;Section 5, 20a lr 15p, at £135 per acre; Section 6, 29a 2r, at £176 per acre; Section 7, 11a 3r lOp, at £150 per acre. In addition to the property sale, the disposal of the well-known Dilworth herd of pedigree Shorthorn milking cattle, ! founded four years ago by purchases from J the famous Darba'ara and Coleville herds lin New South Wales, also took place. j This sale offered farmers a ran opportunity j of laying the foundation of a splendid herd, and one of the largest attendances of buyers ever assembled in the Dominion was recorded. Farmers from all parts of New Zealand were present, and competition was very keen. As a result, record pr ; ces were obtained, ranging from 30 to • 365 guineas for cows, 30 to 180 guineas for ! heifers, and from 16 to 109 guineas for calves. The h-gh price of 650 guineas was paid for the bull, Marlborough of Darba'ara. In all, 138 cows, heifers, bulls, and calves were sold. A small herd of pedigree pigs was also disposed of, the competition being keen and prices very good. - Prices Realised by Cattle.
